The Faustian Exchange: Blind or Madness?

我爱我的同学!

Since my last post did not so much focus on what was being exchanged instead of the actual exchange itself, allow me to explain further in this blog. The Faustian Exchange refers to when the learned Doctor John Faustus sells his soul to Lucifer for twenty four years of wealth and service from Lucifer's henchman, Mephistopheles. The reasons for him to take eternal damnation for a mere twenty four years of earthly pleasure is precisely what I am trying to understand. Could the answer be complete and utter madness? I do not think so, considering he is an established doctor. Greed? What would make one wish to exchange heavenly wealth for earthly wealth? This leaves what I think is the only explanation for his folly: Pride. This Hubris is precisely what get's Faustus into the problem in the first place by giving him a craving for wealth of knowledge and a drive to be the best scholar possible. Questions? Post them in the comments section below.
